Arizona called for President elect Donald Trump

In a turnaround of the state, Arizona was finally called in favour of President elect Donald Trump making his tally to 312. The important state of Arizona was declared for President Trump on late Saturday night by the Associated Press. The Associated Press pronounced President-elect Donald Trump the winner in Arizona on Saturday night, after vote results in Maricopa and other counties increased his total lead, placing the state out of reach for Vice President Kamala Harris.

At 9:21 p.m. ET, the Associated Press called the contest, with Trump leading Harris 52.6% to 46.4%, a margin of nearly 185,000 votes. Harris needed to win almost seven out of every ten votes from the approximately 443,000 uncounted ballots remaining, a number that has progressively increased as more votes were counted.

Swing states

Donald Trump has triumphed in Arizona, returning the state to Republican control after Joe Biden nearly won it in 2020. This triumph, combined with wins in all seven battleground states—Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and North Carolina—has increased Trump’s Electoral College total to 312, compared to Kamala Harris’ 226. His success reflects widespread support among conservative and working-class voters, including a sizable Hispanic population in areas such as Arizona.

Senate

Republicans have also recovered control of the Senate, capturing 52 seats, and the House is anticipated to remain under GOP control. As Trump prepares for a second term, he has selected Susie Wiles as White House Chief of Staff and is evaluating fresh candidates such as Ric Grenell and Marco Rubio for critical positions.

Cabinet

With victory assured, Trump is already planning his second term. Susie Wiles, his campaign manager, has been nominated White House Chief of Staff, a historic first for a woman in that position.

Trump has ruled out selecting Mike Pompeo and Nikki Haley to Cabinet positions, preferring new faces such as former ambassador to Germany Ric Grenell for secretary of state and Florida Senator Marco Rubio. Robert F. Kennedy Jr., known for his anti-vaccine attitude, is also likely to play a significant role in health policy, while Elon Musk is being considered for a position in government auditing.
