“Donald Trump Triumphs in South Carolina Primary, Surpasses Nikki Haley”

Donald Trump easily defeated Nikki Haley in the South Carolina Republican primary on Saturday, paving the way for his candidacy and possible rematch with Joe Biden for the presidency.

With 15 states up for grabs in just 10 days, “Super Tuesday” will see Trump secure an overwhelming lead after he easily won the first four key nominating contests. This is due to his impressive polling figures.

Haley tried repeatedly to undermine the former president’s credibility with Republicans, raising doubts about his mental stability and threatening catastrophe in the event of another Trump administration, but her attempts were not successful.

As the only female candidate in the Republican field and a well-liked former governor of South Carolina in the 2010s, Nikki Haley sought to surpass expectations in her home state and build momentum before Super Tuesday.

But despite his legal troubles, she was up against it in a state that strongly supported Donald Trump’s style of conservative “America first” ideology and emphasis on personal complaints. Haley tried her best, but she was unable to make any headway on this hotly contested battlefield.

The former president secured his opponent’s home state in the primary with a strong 20-point advantage, marking his fourth consecutive victory.

Mr. Trump made a point of leaving out Ms. Haley, who stayed dedicated to carrying out her campaign, while he celebrated his victory. Rather, he focused on the general election that would take place in November.

Donald Trump speaks

“We’re going to look Joe Biden right in the eye,” he told supporters minutes after US media projected him as the winner on Saturday night.
“He’s destroying our country – and we’re going to say ‘get out Joe, you’re fired’.”
Mr Trump lauded his party’s “unity” after Saturday’s result, saying: “There’s never been a spirit like this. I have never seen the Republican Party so unified.”

As per the latest reports, President Donald Trump secured 451,905 votes with 44 delegates, while Nikki Halley got 298,674 votes.

The reported vote share for Donald Trump is more than 65%, while Nikki Haley secured around 30% votes

Nikki Haley responds

In her remarks, Ms. Haley, a former popular two-term governor of South Carolina, congratulated her opponent on winning.

Nonetheless, she declared that the approximately 40% of the vote she received was “not some tiny group” and vowed not to resign.

“A significant portion of voters in our Republican primary are expressing their desire for an alternative,” she stated, underscoring the fact that her prolonged campaign was unrelated to her personal political goals.

“I’m not giving up this fight when a majority of Americans disapprove of both Donald Trump and Joe Biden,” she said.

She has reiterated her intention to stay in the race through at least Super Tuesday on March 5, when voters from sixteen states will cast ballots simultaneously.

Democrats react

Several Democrats took to social media on Saturday night in an attempt to make fun of former President Donald Trump following his victory in the South Carolina Republican primary.

Some even went so far as to suggest that his final major opponent in the GOP should continue running.

“Would love if mainstream media also stated pointing out the fact that President Biden won South Carolina by more than 97% of the vote and that almost 60% of Nikki Haley voters said in exit polls that they’d vote against Trump today,” wrote Victor Shi, the youngest elected delegate for Joe Biden in 2020, in response to the news of Trump’s victory on X.

Shi continued, “Trump is weak and he will lose.”

After Trump’s triumph, Democratic political consultant Adam Parkhomenko added his thoughts to a tweet addressed to X, stating, “Things are not going well at the Trump event in South Carolina.”
