Voters are going to the polls to choose their next president. Both former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris must receive at least 270 electoral votes to prevail. Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin—all battleground states—are anticipated to play a crucial role in the outcome.
In the small New Hampshire town of Dixville Notch, which, in keeping with a decades-old custom, opened and closed its poll shortly after midnight ET, Harris and Trump deadlocked with three votes each. When state polls start closing at 7 p.m. ET, here’s what to expect hour by hour.
Last night, the candidates’ last campaign events took place in battleground states. In Pennsylvania, Harris concluded her 107-day campaign. On the other hand Trump promoted his party and campaigned in swing state of Michigan which holds a vital key in most of the elections.
In what has been called the closest and most turbulent US presidential race in history, bitter rivals Donald Trump and Kamala Harris began their final campaign blitz on Monday, focusing on Pennsylvania. In addition to being the first Black woman and somebody of South Asian heritage to serve as president, Harris would be the first woman in the 248-year history of the United States if elected. The historical importance of her victory would be significant, even if Harris and her team have minimized the emphasis on gender and race in order to avoid offending potential supporters.
While Democrat Harris asserts that “momentum” is on her side in her quest to become America’s first female president, Republican Trump is certain of a “landslide” victory as he looks to make a spectacular comeback to the White House.
A Trump win, however, would be a distinct kind of historical turning point. Just over five months ago, he was charged with 34 felonies in a hush-money case in New York, making him the first convicted felon to be elected president of the United States.
